FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions About Knee Problems and Treatments

01
What Are the Main Causes of Knee Joint Swelling and Inflammation?

Knee Swelling and Inflammation Usually Occur Due to Two Main Reasons:

1. With a History of Trauma or Injury:

  • Bone fractures within the knee
  • Acute ligament or meniscus tears
  • Acute dislocations of the knee or patella

2. Without a History of Trauma:

  • Infections (bacterial or viral)
  • Tumors
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Autoimmune diseases (such as lupus)
  • Drug reactions
02
Does a Meniscus Tear Heal on Its Own?

The meniscus is divided into outer and inner parts based on blood supply. The central areas lack blood vessels, while the outer edge receives blood supply, giving it some healing potential when injured. However, this does not mean that every meniscus tear in the outer region will heal on its own.

03
What Is the Appropriate Age for Knee Replacement Surgery?

Advancements in surgical techniques, the evolution of prosthetic engineering, and improvements in rehabilitation methods have eliminated age restrictions for knee replacement surgery. The decision to perform or avoid the procedure is now based on the nature and severity of the disease.

04
How long is the recovery period for ACL reconstruction surgery?

The surgery takes about one hour. After the procedure, the patient uses a knee brace for approximately one week.

Afterward, the brace is removed, and the patient walks with or without a cane while starting specific rehabilitation exercises for the knee.

Returning to daily and sports activities is gradual, and post-operative care usually takes at least four months before resuming normal activities or sports.
